Trick-or-Treating for Parents
Trick-or-treating isn’t just for kids. Parents get to have a blast, too! And, if you’re taking the kids out on Halloween, you definitely won’t be alone. Surveys by the NRF reported that last year, nearly 33% of adults planned to take their children out trick-or-treating, while 73.5% planned to hand out candy.
Whether you’re staying in or going out, the best way for the whole family to have more fun is to dress in costume. If you haven’t dressed up since you were a kid yourself, then this Halloween is the perfect time to discover what you’ve been missing.
I’ve always found that kids love it when I, and other adults, wear a costume. Kids seem to feel like we want to be part of their world in a way that’s important to them. It also gives kids an opportunity to relate through play, and is a wonderful way to open conversations with neighbors on Halloween night—whether you’re out trick-or-treating or at home giving out candy.
When searching for a costume, it’s best to consider ones that will be fun for both you and the kids. Picking a costume theme for the whole family can be a lot of fun, or you can choose a kid-friendly option, like a character from a kids’ movie, game or TV show.
